Facebook believes its supplier base should reflect the people and communities it serves.  That’s why Facebook launched its Supplier Diversity program in October 2016 to help diverse suppliers do business with Facebook and with the people and communities that Facebook connects.

From the launch of its supplier diversity efforts at the end of 2016, Facebook has spent more than $1.7 billion cumulatively with US companies certified as minority, women, veteran, LGBTQ, or disabled-owned diverse suppliers.

In 2020 alone, Facebook spent approximately $636 million with diverse suppliers in categories spanning creative services, facilities management, network infrastructure and more, and is currently focused on its commitment to increase its annual spend to at least $1 billion with certified diverse suppliers by the end of 2021, that include NVBDC Certified SD/VOBs.

Facebook’s diverse supplier spend is defined as all financial outlays made to certified, diverse-owned businesses for goods and services provided to Facebook within the reporting period.  Private certifications are issued by one or more of the following organizations: National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), National Veterans Business Development Council (NVBDC), National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), or Disability:IN.

Vendors that are part of the program may participate in invite-only events for Facebook’s diverse suppliers.  The program is open to for-profit businesses that are majority owned, operated, and controlled by diverse entrepreneurs.  While definitions of diversity vary by regions and countries, in the United States, this includes companies that are majority-owned by racial or ethnic minorities, women, veterans of the US Armed Forces, and persons identifying as LGBTQ or entrepreneurs with a disability – a physical and/or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

Most importantly, while third-party diversity certification is not required to be a Facebook supplier, businesses that do not have a current third-party certification may not be eligible for full program benefits.

We encourage you to learn more about our industry leading SD/VOB certification required by major U.S. corporations and find out why the corporations that make up the Billion Dollar Roundtable (BDR) have voted to include Service Disabled and Veteran Owned Businesses (SD/VOBs) certified by the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC) in their qualified diversity spend.
