Mission: POSSIBLE isn’t just about helping veteran-owned businesses win contracts—it’s about helping them build organizations that are positioned for long-term success.

As part of its commitment to developing stronger veteran-owned businesses, the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC) recently hosted “From Foundation to Growth: Building Talent with H.O.P.E. and Vanguard Rising,” featuring Robyn Grable, Founder of The ASCEND Collective and a long-time member of the NVBDC Military & Veteran Organization (MVO) Task Force.

For years, Grable has been an active contributor to the MVO Task Force, sharing her expertise in leadership, workforce development, and talent strategy to help veteran entrepreneurs build stronger organizations. Her continued partnership reflects the collaborative spirit of the MVO Task Force, where industry experts work together to provide practical resources that help veteran-owned businesses grow.

During the webinar, Grable challenged attendees to rethink the way they approach hiring—not simply as filling vacancies, but as building a sustainable talent system that supports long-term business success. She introduced the H.O.P.E. Framework—Hiring, Onboarding, Performance, and Engagement—demonstrating how these four elements work together to strengthen organizations, improve retention, and reduce the costly impact of poor hiring decisions.

Rather than treating hiring and employee development as separate HR functions, participants learned how intentional talent strategies create stronger cultures, better employee performance, and greater organizational resilience.

A key message throughout the presentation centered on the four foundational qualities every successful organization should cultivate:

  • Character
  • Competence
  • Consistency
  • Communication

These principles serve as the cornerstone for building high-performing teams capable of supporting long-term business growth.

The webinar also introduced attendees to Vanguard Rising, an innovative workforce development initiative that allows businesses to observe individuals working on real-world projects before making hiring decisions. At the same time, the program provides veterans and military spouses with valuable hands-on experience that helps prepare them for future employment opportunities. This approach benefits both employers and job seekers by reducing hiring risk while strengthening the veteran talent pipeline.

As NVBDC continues to expand its Mission: POSSIBLE initiative and the vision of NVBDC 3.0, educational programming like this webinar reinforces that certification is only the beginning. Success also requires building resilient businesses with strong leadership, effective systems, and exceptional people.

NVBDC extends its sincere appreciation to Robyn Grable and The ASCEND Collective for their continued partnership, leadership, and longstanding support of the NVBDC MVO Task Force. Their dedication to helping veteran-owned businesses build stronger teams and stronger organizations continues to make a meaningful impact across the veteran business community.

Through webinars, strategic partnerships, and ongoing educational programming, NVBDC remains committed to equipping veteran-owned businesses with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to thrive.
