This was written by my friend Woody Wollesen and I wish I had written it first. Thanks Woody, we are of the generation that understood the true meaning of Memory Day and placed flowers on the graves of the Veterans in our local cemetery.
Think about it
Then think about it again
Let’s get this straight:
All Memorial Day events and celebrations to honor our military fallen (over million that made the ultimate sacrifice to date) have been cancelled due an alleged pandemic –
Then consider:
*Anyone and everyone can openly enter and browse all day if desired Home Depot, Lowes, or Ace Hardware
*Most parks, playgrounds, and trails are open for any one
*Our supermarkets are jammed with folks most days as well Dollar Store open serving customers
* Beaches across the country fully open
*Restaurants in some regions already open
* In a few states no restrictions whatsoever throughout
* Our national parks generally open, at least Kennesaw National Park is open
Yet going to a US National Cemetery (enough space usually for thousands to attend if needed even with proper spacing) on Memorial Day, placing American flags on every grave site and honoring our military fallen is not allowed (in PA the governor actually forbidding a company to open to produce the flags) – all events cancelled
Not only is such a national disgrace most unforgivable that our own veteran organizations contributed and support the cancellations. How does one spell cowardice, a refusal to step forward and be counted?
Let’s get this straight – Every single veteran signed a blank check for their own lives payable on demand, many serving in combat zones, becoming wounded, injured (both physically, mentally, and spiritually), countless families suffering along with those veterans, yet how dare any government or official (usually no one having ever served in our military) claim the right to deny those veterans the right to be “fully honored” in our national cemeteries – to be personally present in whatever numbers they might desire to honor their fallen comrades at arms?
How dare our nation or any governmental official or body (even our military organizations) dishonor all veterans in such a fashion? In simple terms it will be a national disgrace!
It is not too late.
I would urge every single veteran organization or group to stand up and grow a set (especially veterans on motorcycles – it used to be the ride to the Wall – I was there). Time for every national cemetery to have an open event for our fallen!!!
“In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
And the silence to properly honor our fallen is deafening!!!!
“Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world. A veteran does not have that problem.” Ronald Reagan
“And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.” \Lee Greenwood
“Liberty is never unalienable; it must be redeemed regularly with the blood of patriots or it always vanishes. Of all the so-called natural human rights that have ever been invented, liberty is least likely to be cheap and is never free of cost.” Robert A. Heinlein
